Over the past three years (and across two companies), I've had the chance to work with a SAAS based B2B sales platform called NuORDER. It's effectively an ecommerce solution tailored for wholesale in the fashion industry.
My first interaction with it was in March of 2020, when the company I was at had to make a rapid pivot to respond to global shutdowns at the onset of the COVID pandemic. NuORDER can be a digital showroom of sorts, and this was needed as the world started working from home and product launches went virtual.
Formally the Project Manager and informally the Business Analyst on the project, I raced to set up the system and get it ready for the next selling season in May. Due to lack of lead time, it was set up without any integrations with our existing ERP. What this meant was I manually uploaded every product, customer, sales rep, manager and inventory configuration.
After everything was set up, I delivered training to the entire sales force and internal sales operation. As users began to leverage the system, I served as their main contact for support.
As we continued using the system, I worked with our internal integrations team to build connections into the ERP system (Microsoft Dynamics GP) so that every season wouldn't need to be manually set up. This involved several key data types:
- Product Data - this had to be extracted from two places (ERP and spreadsheets) and transformed down to size/UPC level
- Customer Data - extracted from the ERP, this involved structuring customer addresses (many customers have multiple locations/warehouses) to work in NuORDER
- Inventory - simultaneously support prebook and ASAP/ATS inventory
- Pricing - multiple currencies and pricing levels, along with a date element
- Orders - arguably the most important. Transmission of submitted orders from NuORDER to the ERP system, maintaining the order status to ensure it was clear what stage it was in
After this was implemented, I continued to be the Product Owner of the system going forward. This involved facilitating support, ensuring data transmission/integrity and managing the launch of new seasons.
A few years later and I now manage NuORDER for another large brand. With several years of experience dealing with critical use cases, I have a deep familiarity and understanding of how NuORDER works.
